A Surreal Moment: Seeing Myself on ABC7 While Promoting My Books
Recently, while attending the Queer Mercado as a local author, I experienced something unexpected. The news crew from ABC7 Los Angeles walked through the event.
As they passed my table showcasing The Late Hour, Stories for the Insomniac series, the cameras stopped briefly on my booth—and suddenly, I found myself appearing on television.
It only lasted a few seconds, but honestly, it meant a lot to me.
For years, I’ve been creating independently—writing books, directing films, setting up booths at events, and trying to build something from the ground up without industry connections or a safety net. I started filmmaking because I loved storytelling, and over time that passion evolved into writing novels.
Seeing my work represented in local news felt surreal because it reminded me that all those long nights spent creating alone had actually led somewhere.
Thank you to the Queer Mercado for supporting independent artists and to ABC7 for highlighting local creators and community spaces.
