Insomnia Is Winning Tonight

Insomnia is kicking my butt tonight.

You’d think this would be the perfect time to sit down and write. After all, The Late Hour series was practically built for nights like this—when the world is quiet, everyone else is asleep, and the mind refuses to slow down. But tonight I’m doing the opposite. I’m taking a small break from writing.

Sometimes the mind needs that.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about how long this journey has actually been. It’s strange to say out loud, but I’ve been working in the world of The Late Hour for about ten years now. What started as a collection of strange stories slowly grew into something bigger, eventually leading to Confessions, which turned out to be the most personal thing I’ve ever written.

Seeing this old photo tonight brought some of that back to me.

The picture here was taken when I was in my mid-30s, sitting at a desk late at night working on Confessions. Back then, I didn’t really think about how long the road ahead would be. I was just trying to get the story out of my head and onto the page.

Looking at it now, it feels like a snapshot from the middle of the journey.

Right now, I’m taking a bit of a pause from writing. Not a full stop—just a moment to step back and breathe. But the story isn’t finished. The plan has always been to continue The Late Hour, and I’m already thinking about where to take it next.

Volume IV is coming.

The ideas are there. The characters are still talking. I just need the right quiet night to sit down and listen again.

For now, though, insomnia wins this round.

And maybe that’s okay. Some stories take time.
